Petersham Nurseries, London

As I reflect upon our trip to London, the morning of day two was easily my favorite. We woke up to another delicious english breakfast at The Byron Hotel and then made our way to Petersham Nurseries in Richmond, London. Richmond, an English town bordering the River Thames, is well known for Richmond Park, Richmond Green, Kew Gardens, Richmond Bridge, and Petersham Nurseries.

To get to Petersham Nurseries from The Byron, we hopped on the Circle Line from Bayswater Station in route to Gloucester Road. Once we arrived at Gloucester Road, we switched over to the District Line headed to Richmond. Richmond station to Petersham is still a bit of a walk, so we then hopped on a double decker bus which would take us the rest of the way.

We decided the scenery was too beautiful to miss once we arrived in Richmond. Instead of riding the final few minutes, we hopped off the double decker bus and walked. This short walk gave us a small taste of the English Countryside and we are both so eager to visit more of the English Countryside again soon. I kept saying to Caleb, "I feel like we are in a romantic English movie!"

After a 10 minute walk, we arrived at Petersham Nurseries. It’s amazing how hidden Petersham is! The Richmond location is made up of The Teahouse, The Cafe, The Home Shop, The Nursery, and The Garden Shop. We likely could have spent an entire day wandering through the shops and gardens.

I knew I would fall in love with the bougainvillea laced throughout the shops and cafes, but these stunning flowers, along with many others, were breathtaking to view in person. I cannot wait to try my hand at gardening this upcoming spring/summer, and if it were not for airline constraints, I would have purchased all the flower seeds possible from the garden shop on this visit.

If we visited Petersham later in the week, I would have absolutely made Caleb attend Afternoon Tea with me. Unfortunately, Petersham only offers Afternoon Tea from Thursday to Sunday, and we headed to Nice, France on Thursday morning. Instead, we ordered cakes, water, and lemonade from The Teahouse. We could have happily spent all afternoon just sitting and talking at this darling table in the tea house made entirely of glass, but there was still much more to see.

After our light snack, we made our way to the shops. The home decor shop is filled with antiques, furniture, glassware, basket bags, and other unique botanical inspired home goods. I purchased a small plant pot for myself that is sitting on our living room fire place. After the home decor shop, we made our way to The Garden Shop. If you have a green thumb, or aspire to have one, this little garden shop is a must-see. I have never seen so many stunning plants and garden tools!

If you visit Petersham Nurseries yourself, they also offer a variety of floristry, foraging, gardening, and culinary workshops that I think would be so fun to try! You can find more information about their workshops here.

After many hours of wandering and drooling over this beautiful hidden nursery space, Caleb finally convinced me to stick to the itinerary. Although I was sad to leave, I could not wait to walk alongside the River Thames hand-in-hand with him.

Everything in London just feels more picturesque. I mean, just look at this cow! It truly was the perfect day for a stroll through Richmond and we soaked in every moment of it together.

Check back soon for a Black and White recap of Day Two, Part Two. I can’t wait to share photos of the rest of this beautiful day!

Much Love,

The O’Neels
